Apple’s launch of the iWatch is imminent, though still hard
to predict it’s ETA. We've heard tons of rumours regarding what to expect from
the products, and we do know that Apple has been hard at work to trademark
names like “iWatch” under its portfolio over the last couple of months. Just
like Apple dropped the “Apple Computer” name a couple of years ago in order to
reflect the fact that it didn't only build computers, the company is also
making some changes to what the name “Apple” can provide in the US and abroad.
Apple Inc. is now extending the “Apple” trademark in order
to cover additional products like “jewellery, clocks and watches”. These
trademark filings are mostly happening outside the US, and they are basing
themselves on Apple being able to build products under Class 14, of the
possible classes you can trademark, which covers precious metals/stones and
products made from those materials. This wouldn't be the first time that Apple
trademarks something under Class 14, but it is the first time that Apple as a brand
is being associated to these types of products permanently.
This clearly hints to the company hard-at-work on its next
wearable, and rumours continue to point to it attempting to revolutionize health
and fashion at the same time. Hopefully we’ll see it in-time for WWDC 2014, as the
next iOS would need a wearable to be in competition.
