MusicNow: The rise of EDM in India.

Axwell,Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angelo raise the India flag.

As I stood there in a sellout of thousands, screaming and relishing each moment to the core at the Swedish House Mafia concert, the most marvelous thing happened, beneath the huge LED panels, multicolored lasers and roaring speakers, the legendary trio of Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angelo picked up the Indian flag above their shoulders and the entire crowd at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, Mumbai, India went wild.

Electronic Dance Music, known as EDM all over the world, consists of various genres, and a new type of EDM is made in a corner of the world as we speak. Genres like Drum and Bass, Trance, Techno, Dubstep, Trap, and Moombahton have become globally mainstream.

This genre has taken India’s young affluent metropolitan populations by storm. The rise of EDM in India is at a perfect timing as it has given a breakthrough to the nightlife of the country.  Big name producers such as David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Skrillex, Axwell, Avicii have been leading the charts as well as the hearts of the people of the Indian Sub-continent.

It’s not just foreign artists visiting India.  Indian DJs are also attending top EDM festivals and presenting India globally. Top and rising artists include Anil Chawla, Audio Units, Kohra , Paveen Achary , Oozeundar and Lost Stories and Arjun Vagale being personal favorites. India has also contributed to the world of EDM presenting an entirely new genre namely “Goa Trance” which originated in the late 1980’s on the beaches of Goa, India.  Goa has become a hot destination for partying and a hub of EDM.

The affinity between EDM and India is just in its beginning stages. According to me,India might be in the process of becoming the hub of EDM in the near future.

They raved here: Armin van Buuren,Tiesto, David Guetta,Hardwell, Paul van Dyk, Above and Beyond, Dash Berlin, Afrojack, Steve Aoki, Swedish House Mafia, Axwell, Gareth Emery and many more.
