TechNow: HTC exec explains the black area with the HTC logo on the One (M8)

The HTC One (M8) has received positive overall feedback, but at the same time there were voices on the internet — cause that’s what HTC is telling you, to “ask the internet” — that were not satisfied at all with the black space below the screen, where the HTC logo resides (and where the capacitive buttons were placed on the previous iteration of the phone).
According to HTC’s own Jeff Gordon, the “black area with the HTC logo” “not “empty” by any means”. Apparently, as the HTC exec explains, “underneath is a huge amount of circuitry, antennae, etc.”, so, in other words, it is by design, and quite necessary for the operation of the M8. Could it have had a better screen-to-body ratio? Or smaller bezels? With the improved BoomSound speakers and everything underneath, it is tough to say, so it’s something we have to live with, at least until the HTC One (M9) next year.
