It’s April and here is the Android platform distribution update by
Google. In March this year, we saw Android 4.4 KitKat cross the 5%, while
everything before Jelly Bean decline.
Some outdated and useless Froyo devices still hold tightly to
their 1% mark (we hope that disappears this year), Gingerbread now holds under
20% and Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean (4.1 ) declined.
Jelly Bean (4.2) Jelly Bean rose and is now ahead of Ice Cream Sandwich.
Jelly Bean 4.3 stayed in place since January, because many companies are
leapfrogging 4.3 and going straight to 4.4 (LG and Motorola).
With KitKat being adopted more and Jelly Bean mostly staying in
place (and hopefully declining), OpenGL ES 2.0 support declined, and OpenGL ES
3.0 increased. This is important for game developers who are considering using more
advanced graphics features as they can now reach 10.5% of all Androids devices
out there!
