Meet the Team: Tushar Nayak

Hey there! Before I start introducing myself, as the Administrator and Editor in chief at TheEverythingNow, it is my honor to thank all my viewers to help our blog reach a staggering 1000 views (at time of writing) within a week (7 days).

Now, back to me :P . To start, my name is Tushar Nayak, but you will find me all around the internet with usernames like @gadgetguru or @gadgetguru28. Just like all my fellow co-editors I attend Udayachal High School, Mumbai and I am in the tenth grade. I have been into blogging before but TheEverythingNow is my first successful one. As the Editor in chief, I will be verifying all articles and improving them and as the administrator of the blog, I will maintain the website. But, as an editor on TheEverydayNow, I will over look the Science & Technology Division and the News Updates division. You may also find me occasionally writing movie reviews, abstract articles & short entertaining stories!

My desk
I can't live without books!
That’s all about me relating to TheEverydayNow. I am a teenager (15) who loves science, technology, aviation, consumer electronics and astronomy. Even though I my ambitions keep on changing, I planning on being a physicist or a consumer technology designer. I am an avid reader of books, my favorites being biographies of great contributors of the science (Steve

I can't live without books!
Jobs, Richard Feynman, Linus Tolwards, Bill Gates, Nandan Nilemani, J.R.D Tata to name a few)  but I do enjoy reading novels too. Speaking of literature, I know English, Hindi & French. To note…. I love to fake an American or British accent. I am also a lead editor of my school’s annual glimpse magazine.

Lil me ;)
You may find my tech related articles a little tough to understand, but I’m trying to make things in the tech industry very simple for every person to understand. As for my relation with tech, it has been an awesome one! I am a certified MCSE, MCITP, CCNA, SQL Admin etc. I have also learnt programming at home (I am working on a data efficient web browser). Speaking about computers, I am a semi-hardcore gamer. I have completed the entire Crysis game series and many others like Black Ops II, The Future Soldier: Ghost Recon, Tomb Raider 2013, Sleeping Dogs, GTA 3/SA/VC/4 and many more!

Many people call me a nerd/geek, but trust me I’m not! I am also actively into sports. I am state-ranking skater. I am also a very good athlete (I was the best athlete in my age group 4 years ago). Right now, because of time constraints, I swim and exercise in the gym.
I also have a keen interest in music. I play the synthesizer and the grand piano (ranked in merit in Trinity Grade 2). I have also been a part of my school choir (I regret it till date!). I love listening to house music but I also don’t mind listening to country and rock music. I HATE modern bollywood, so expect no bollywood reviews from this guy! I love comic books, which has led me to love comic based movies. My favorite comicbook superhero is Iron Man/ Tony Stark.  I don’t particularly watch television but I do watch Discovery Science’s aeronautics related shows and Air Crash Investigation. And fyi… I happen to love Big Bang Theory.

I am also affiliated with an NGO called Seeds of Peace and I’ve attended MUNs and more!

So that’s all about me. I will try my best to keep this blog the one place for you to be entertained as well as updated. To wrap all things, I hope you love reading my articles and my co-editor’s articles on TheEverythingNow, a comprehensive, prodigious blog to keep you updated and entertained.

TechNow Rewind: Week 12, 2014

1. HTC One (M8) announced and starts reaching doorsteps (March 25)

The second generation HTC One  has addressed most of it's predecessor's major shortcomings. Superb to look at and hold and extremely capable, the HTC One (M8) is a proper flagship smartphone. The development team behind it deserves praise for improving the strengths of the first generation while also addressing some of its biggest shortcomings. The metal body has been improved and while the front facing speakers have been matched by Sony they are still a strong point in favor of the One (M8), against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and LG G2. The presence of a microSD card slot means HTC's finest is also getting the cheaper memory expansion afforded to many of its rivals.
The chipset got an update to Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 801, meaning that the KitKat-topping Sense 6.0 runs as smooth as you'd expect. Speaking of the latest version of the HTC launcher, the new gesture controls and notification area toggles go a long way towards improving the user experience. Android purists will also appreciate that the M8, like its predecessor, will be available in Google Play Edition guise. HTC has even partnered with Google to bring support for its dual camera to stock Android.

2.  Apple planning to let you message and see where you’re going with “transparent         texting”

Apple is envisioning a new technology called “transparent texting” and the idea is that instead of having the messaging app show you the typical white background, the iPhone will detect if you’re moving and portray whatever the back camera is capturing at the moment. If you’re walking, this will allow you to keep an eye on your surroundings and avoid tripping. If you think of it, this also allows you to type anything that you’re seeing on a table without having to move your eyes around to get the information.

3. Microsoft DirectX 12 to be optimised for Windows Phone (March 27)

As expected, Microsoft announced the latest version of its proprietary graphics technology, DirectX 12, at the GDC last week. One thing that wasn’t expected was that it will be launched concurrently on Windows and Windows Phone devices, with special optimizations for the latter.

4. Apple patents oleophobic coating for iPhone sapphire displays (March 27)

Apple has just filed a patent that brings oleophobic coating to sapphire glass. Obviously the only reason why you would want these technologies combined, is because you’re intending to use that glass on a device that’ll be handled constantly. The document also notes certain coatings and oleophobic treatments do not fair well when applied directly to sapphire glass. Lots of tests are conducted to determine which are the best coatings to use.

5. Is the HTC One M8 a or water-resistant or is it waterproof?  (March 27)
A working HTC One (M8) was submerged underwater for more than 90 minutes with its display switched on. Despite HTC not officially announcing the device’s water resistant capabilities, the device lived through the water test without any damage. There is however no word on what depths the device can be submerged to without damaging it.

6. Smart bulbs introduced by LG, Philips & Samsung (March 27)

The Samsung Smart Bulb
The Samsung Smart Bulb features LED lighting and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing it to be controlled directly from a mobile device via an app instead of through Wi-Fi or a bridge. A user can control as many as 64 lamps at one time, and brightness can be lowered to 10 percent of the highest level. Earlier this week, LG announced its 10-watt Smart Lamp for either iOS or Android smartphones, over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. That product, however, has only been released so far in that company's home country of South Korea.
The LG Smart Lamp
The LG bulb can be turned on or off via the smartphone. In its announcement Thursday, Samsung didn't specify that kind of basic functionality on its coming product, but one assumes it would exist.
Last fall, Philips released its Hue smart lamp, which is controlled via a bridge that plugs into a home Wi-Fi router. It can also be controlled so that it helps to deter robbers, or it can be set to wake you up with a brightening light.

7. Case-maker Noreve confirms Lumia 1820, S5 zoom and mini

Since it's fashionable for case makers to leak unannounced phones, Noreve put out pages for leather cases for three phones – the Nokia Lumia 1820, Samsung Galaxy S5 mini and Galaxy S5 zoom. The cases will be available "online very soon".

8. Nokia-Microsoft deal to close in April 2014 (March 24)

On September 3, 2013, Microsoft and Nokia announced a deal where Nokia's Devices and Services division has been snatched by the Redmond-based Microsoft. After months of discussions in the board, there were a few hiccups in the completion of the deal, mostly because of regulatory approvals.

TechNow: Nokia to call their next Windows Phone Device Firmware update: Nokia Cherry Blossom Pink

Nokia is known for keeping some really good names for their Windows Phone Device Firmware updates. The Microsoft Winows Phone 8 GDR2 (Portico) update packing Nokia Amber update. This was succeeded by Nokia Black update which packed Windows Phone 8 GDR3 (and the firmware was codenamed Bittersweet shimmer!)
So what’s next in line? What will come with Windows Phone 8.1? A rumor earlier this week talked about it being Blue, but that sounded kind of fake, because Windows Blue and Windows Phone Blue were the codenames for Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 respectivelly. And to add, we’re expecting a color beginning with C (coz it started off with Amber then Black). Today we finally learn what that new color might be, with a leak revealing Nokia’s Cherry Blossom Pink software.
Some screenshots of WP8.1 accompany this news, but with 8.1 itself still being largely unfamiliar to us, they’re of limited us to us; how to tell where the 8.1 stuff ends and the CBP stuff begins? Still, we’ve provided a few below, and once again we get to check out 8.1′s ability to throw up a background image behind your Live Tiles and you get onscreen device navigation controls (like Android 4.0 ICS onwards)
There’s also a chance that we could be looking at a repeat of that situation with Black and Bittersweet Shimmer, and while Cherry Blossom Pink may be what Nokia is codename for it’s next firmware update, it could elect to go with a much more concise name for the public release. Honestly, even Blue might still be on the table. It’s no certainty, but we may well get our answer at Nokia’s April 2nd event.

TechNow: Apple patents oleophobic coating for iPhone sapphire displays

Apple’s production of sapphire is full steam ahead, and many of us believe that the company will use it on its next generation iPhone. Still, we all know that glass gets smudged easily, and therefore we’ve seen the company use oleophobic coating on its display technology since the dawn of the iPhone 3GS. If you still doubted about the possibility of Apple using sapphire on its future iPhone line-up, we suggest your think again, as new patents tell us a different story.
The addition of sapphire glass to an aluminum iPhone would bridge the gap of durability that many have asked for. We can’t guarantee that we’ll see the technology on the iPhone 6, but it would be a key differentiation point that Apple would provide to its future smartphone and tablet line-up.

TechNow: Apple planning to let you message and see where you’re going with “transparent texting”

One of the coolest features of iOS 7 is really the one people take the most for granted. The concept of having everything work through layers of logical order is what makes it simple to move your way around. Still, Apple seems to want to take this concept a step further, as layers can also be applied to your surroundings if you want to.
At the moment this is merely a patent, and there are possibilities that it might not see the light of day. Still, the concept is so logical that you’d wonder why Apple wouldn’t go through with it in future versions of iOS. Let’s hope this also becomes an API for other iOS services to take advantage of.

TechNow: iPhone 6 rumors

Japanese sources are claiming that we shouldn’t expect a launch for the iPhone 6 smartphones before September of this year. The reason why these rumors are credible is because these are the same exact Japanese sources that gave the exact announcement date for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c in 2013. We’ve also heard separate rumors that point to separate iPhone launches where the phablet might be left until the fall and the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will be announced in June.
With some hot competition from Samsung and HTC this Spring, Apple needs to act fast if it wants to keep enough mindshare for its future iPhone launch. Let’s hope the company doesn’t disappoint.

TechNow: Htc teases Samaung for the use of plastic on their Galaxy S5 and othersmartphones.

Despite early rumors suggesting that Samsung might finally leave plastic behind for the Galaxy S5, and deliver a smartphone carved from a chunk of metal, last month saw the company launch another plastic handset. What about those rumors claiming that there might be some “premium” version of the GS5 that would separately deliver a metal body? We recently saw those shot down by J.K. Shin himself. But now HTC is here with its new One, a phone that not only has top-shelf components inside, but a metal exterior that delivers the same refined flavor outside. Unsurprisingly, HTC is taking advantage of the position it finds itself in to criticize Samsung for its seeming inability to move beyond plastics.

Leaked photo of a metal frame for the then unannounced Galaxy S5
HTC America President Jason Mackenzie had some choice words to say about Samsung in an interview this week, calling Samsung “a company that’s focused on investing in advertising” rather than on advancing its smartphones, a choice “that’s evident when you look at that product.”

While Mackenzie acknowledges that some shoppers just don’t care about whether or not their phones are cheap-feeling, HTC is “going after a different customer, someone who wants the best.”

HTC’s bravado may resonate with Android fans who have been growing dissatisfied with Samsung’s reluctance to really shake up its designs, but it’s still difficult to argue with Samsung’s bottom line; HTC can talk about premium materials all it wants, but what does that matter if it can’t find enough of these “customers who want the best” to actually buy its phones?

                                                                                                                      - Tushar  Nayak

TechNow: Is the HTC One M8 a or water-resistant or is it waterproof?

HTC One (M8) might not be a waterproof device officially, but a YouTube video says otherwise. TechSmartt, who earlier leaked the One (M8) and One (M7) comparison video, has put the new flagship through a water test and surprisingly the device survived without any damage.
A working HTC One (M8) was submerged underwater for more than 90 minutes with its display switched on. Despite HTC not officially announcing the device’s water resistant capabilities, the device lived through the water test without any damage. There is however no word on what depths the device can be submerged to without damaging it.
Being an unofficial test, HTC could either have chosen to be humble about the device’s capabilities, or TechSmartt might have used a trick in this water test video. In any case, we would be happy if the phone would include water resistance to spills and immersions.

TechNow: Samsung Galaxy S5 Active specifications leak

The trustworthy @evleaks tipster has delivered yet another interesting rumor. Apparently Samsung is working on a SM-G870 model, which should be released as Galaxy S5 Active.

The Galaxy S5 flagship was announced at the MWC in Barcelona last month. It features a top-notch hardware and is dust and water proof, so lots of people decided the Active version is probably retired.
Well, if @evleaks is right, then we are getting an Active version of the flagship after all. We are not sure if Samsung will just upgrade the water resistance, but it may as well add some military certifications such as impact resistance or MIL-STD-810G certification - that's salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock resistance.
Evleaks suggest the phone will launch on AT&T and Sprint among other carriers later this year.

TechNow: OnePlus One CyanogenMod phone specifications officially revealed before launch!

OnePlus has been trying its best to bring the spotlight on its upcoming One flagship smartphone. The latest teaser from the company reveals some of the hardware specs of the OnePlus One.

The OnePlus One is officially confirmed to sport a 5.5-inch 1080p JDI display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC. The handset was tipped to have a Snapdragon 800 processor, but as it turns out, it will be powered by the newer Snapdragon chipset. It has already appeared on AnTuTu and managed to pass the test with flying colors.
OnePlus One will also feature a 6 piece 13 megapixel Sony Exmor camera with f/2.0 apeture. The teaser also reveals that the device will have swappable back cover and 3,100mAh battery underneath it.
The OnePlus One is rumored to come out with an aluminium unibody design and is expected to cost less than $400. However, there is no official confirmation and we will know more about the device when it goes official.

TechNow: Blackberry OS version 10.3 leaks in multiple screenshots!

A myriad of screenshots have leaked showing the new and upcoming BlackBerry OS 10.3. The new OS release brings a cleaner UI with a predominantly red and black theme.

On the homescreen the icon shadow has been removed. This might be an experimental feature and not make it to the final, but at this point it does add to the minimalist style.
The music player's play button has been emphasized.

The keyboard has received a new layout and color scheme. There's also a screenshot of smart search, which looks like a universal search of sorts.

The camera has a new timer, panorama mode, 720p video recording in both 30 and 60 fps and automatic HDR mode suggestion when the camera senses the conditions call for it. The camera UI also features the cleaner look with a single red shutter.

Further on there will be some smart features like disabling the display when the phone detects it's been turned on its face or is in a pocket.

And finally, the most interesting part is the addition of a new voice assistant. We see its UI below but sadly don't learn anything about it - no name or possible features.

There's no telling when the new OS will hit BlackBerry devices, but it shows that BlackBerry is still committed to improving the OS even amid the disappointing smartphone sales.

TechNow: Sony Xperia Z2 UK launch to be a lil slow

The Sony Xperia Z2 was supposed to launch in early April (with a free 32" TV no less), but there seems to have been a delay. So much for shortages not causing a delay.
Sony states that all pre-orders placed through its key partners will be fulfilled, but the launch remains set for April. There will be some shortages - Sony does not expect to "meet the high demand across all our sales channels". Additional information on retail availability will be released later.

The Sony Xperia Z2 costs £540 off-contract, while monthly taxes for 2-year plans are £42 get you the phone for free.

The TV deal is from Vodafone, while Unlocked Mobiles offer a free wireless speaker, noise-cancelling headphones and digital content with a pre-order.

The phone's tablet counterpart, the Xperia Z2 Tablet, is already on sale in the UK.

TechNow: Dual SIM, Windows Phone 8.1 sporting Nokia Lumia 630 leaked photographsand promotional banners

Posters for the as of writing unofficial Nokia Lumia 630 have started appearing at some retailers in China along with some specifications and even the first live shots of the device! The Lumia 630 will be the first Windows Phone 8.1 with dual-SIM/ dual-standby functionality.
It will allegedly have a 4.5" (or 4.3")  WVGA screen, with a quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset and 1GB RAM. The camera is going to be a 5MP shooter with no flash and, surprisingly, no physical shutter key.
The Nokia Lumia 630 will measure 129.5 x 66.7mm, which is as tall as the Lumia 920 but narrower. This does make the 4.5" screen more likely (same size as on the 920), though large bezels are not out of the question either (it's a budget device after all).

The Nokia Lumia 630 will be unveiled at the Microsoft BUILD conference that starts April 2, the device itself should launch (in China at least) in mid-April. The price tag is rumored to be CNY 1,000 ($160 / €120).

TechNow: Case-maker Noreve confirms Lumia 1820, Galaxy S5 zoom, S5 (well sort-of)

Since it's fashionable for case makers to leak unannounced phones, Noreve put out pages for leather cases for three phones – the Nokia Lumia 1820, Samsung Galaxy S5 mini and Galaxy S5 zoom. The cases will be available "online very soon".
In case you haven't heard of the Lumia 1820, it supposedly has a 5.2" QHD screen and a Snapdragon 805 chipset. It will be Nokia's 2014 flagship device.
The other two devices are Galaxy S5 variants.
The Galaxy S5 zoom is rumored to have a 20MP camera, 4.8" 720p screen, quad-core chipset (possibly Snapdragon 400) and run Android 4.4 KitKat.
The Galaxy S5 mini should have a Super AMOLED screen at 720p resolution and be powered by a Snapdragon 800 chipset.

Check the product pages for the Lumia 1820Galaxy S5 zoom and S5 mini.

TechNow: Samsung introduces the LED Smart Bulb.

To stay in competition  its domestic rival LG, today, Samsung unveiled a smart LED bulb of its own. It’s called simply “Smart Bulb” and unlike most of the competition, it’s utilizes Bluetooth in order to connect to smartphones and tablets. Samsung says you can control up to 64 bulbs via the dedicated app without any additional equipment or set-up. The bulbs can be dimmed down to 10% and lasts up to 15,000 hours or 10 years if used normally.
Home automation is possible if you use a ZigBee Bluetooth hub, but Samsung doesn’t seem to be including it in the bulb’s package. The Smart Bulb has already been awarded a Design Plus award by iF Design, which is noteworthy if you care about the design of your bulbs. Pricing and availability are yet to be confirmed. We hope going for Bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi will allow Samsung to place its Smart Bulb below the $32 threshold established by LG’s Smart Lamp.
