TechNow: Apple planning to let you message and see where you’re going with “transparent texting”

One of the coolest features of iOS 7 is really the one people take the most for granted. The concept of having everything work through layers of logical order is what makes it simple to move your way around. Still, Apple seems to want to take this concept a step further, as layers can also be applied to your surroundings if you want to.
Apple is envisioning a new technology called “transparent texting” and the idea is that instead of having the messaging app show you the typical white background, the iPhone will detect if you’re moving and portray whatever the back camera is capturing at the moment. If you’re walking, this will allow you to keep an eye on your surroundings and avoid tripping. If you think of it, this also allows you to type anything that you’re seeing on a table without having to move your eyes around to get the information.
At the moment this is merely a patent, and there are possibilities that it might not see the light of day. Still, the concept is so logical that you’d wonder why Apple wouldn’t go through with it in future versions of iOS. Let’s hope this also becomes an API for other iOS services to take advantage of.
